James Sharer is currently a Biology major at Pennsylvania State University. After graduating, he plans to continue on to medical school and has been planning a career in medicine since he was a boy. James Sharer is a research intern at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. His duties include: working with patients, managing hospital databases and administering various olfactory tests. He hopes to someday help with the advancement of treatment in these areas of medicine.


James Sharer started into the medical field, because of his desire to help people who are in need. He gives back to his community whenever possible and is a member of the Penn State THON Rules and Regulations committee. THON is a dance marathon held yearly to raise money to fight pediatric cancer.

The money raised has helped numerous young children in their fight against this horrible disease. The THON fundraiser continues to outdo itself. THON raised a record breaking 12.37 million dollars in 2013. Then in 2014 raised a shocking thirteen and a half million dollars.


James Sharer takes his career choice very seriously and has begun to prepare himself for this demanding career. He is a member of the Biology Club at Penn State, as well as a research intern working with the director of the Smell and Taste Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. As a research intern he manages databases using software such as SPSS and SYSTAT. Currently James Sharer is working on a research paper that studies the effects of smoking on Parkinson’s disease.
